iPhone 3G
After many, many hours of waiting (4 hours to be exact) at the famed Apple Store on 5th Avneue, I finally got my iPhone 3G. First off, the wait in the line was horrible as they said it was initially a 3 hour wait… somehow it extended to about an extra hour but nonetheless, it was well worth it the wait. The features of the iPhone are as advertised if not better and I don’t know if I’ll ever go to another brand phone. The guys at Apple, whether you’re a fan or not, definitely know what they’re doing!

Living with 'kids'
I’m not an animal rights activist, however I do believe in Bob Barker in having your pets ‘spayed or neutered.’ So with that being said… I would just like to introduce you to some of the joys in my life. #1 Suspect: Jack – a terrier mix, rescued from a shelter. He’s an energetic spitfire who likes to cuddle 24/7. #2 Suspect: Winnie – a wire-haired daschund, who has the innate ability to whine 24/7. While life with my fiancé (only 9 days left by the way before the big day) was tranquil for awhile, it has been absolute chaos since… toys everywhere, carpet stains, etc… But I guess with becoming a ‘parent’, it comes with the territory. How can you not love these guys?

Mike Deese- Updates
"2008 is warming up nicely (and about time, too!) with some April educational appearances at Simpson College and Broward Community College, where I will be conducting masterclasses and performing as the featured artist with the university jazz band. Back in NYC, I'm looking forward to performing with the Jimmy Heath Big Band at the Iridium and also with Claudio Roditi's quintet. I'm very fortunate to be playing an excellent trombone made for me by master craftsman, Michael Rath of England. I'll be taking my Protec leather gig bag every step of the way!" - Mike Dease

Recent and future performances
Last night (March 18, 2008) I performed in Rockford Iowa with the bands at the local community school. It is always such a pleasure to work with students who are so enthusiastic about music! It was a long day – leaving the house at 7AM and back at 12:30AM – but definitely worth it. The bands were directed by Ben Thompson, a former student of mine who is getting some very good results.
Other news – my CD Aeterna, is just about to be released on Teel Creek Records! It includes works by Paganini, J.S. Bach, Ron Albrecht, John Anthony Lennon, Robert Schumann, Nate Brown and others. I’m looking forward to performing some of the works (the Albrecht Urban Impressions) on this CD at the North American Saxophone Conference in South Carolina in April. Always such a great hang with so many saxophonists there. Lots of gear talk…something I have been asked to limit at home by my wife…

Protec Pod
So, as of early February my cell phone was pretty much presumed dead. My phone suffered years of abuse being unprotected in my pocket. So, I bought a cool new slider. I racked my brain to find ways to protect my new phone. After all, I couldn't live with myself should my new phone suffer the terrible wrong-doings of it's predecessor. Working for Protec definitely has it's advantages and this was one of them. We now offer Pod cases. "This will work great for my new phone", I thought. These are meant to be used for IPods, cameras, mouthpieces and in this case - worked perfect for my phone. I'm proud to say my new phone has remained scratch and dent free. I only wish more solutions were this easy in life...
